How Exact sales really work

Exact is a TFG value womenswear brand, built on everyday basics, workwear and casual pieces at low prices. Like the other value chains the rand savings are modest by nature, and the discounts are frequent enough that a sale badge on its own is not much of a signal.

At this end of the market the useful question is whether the item is at a genuine recorded low, because a few rand matters more on a low base. We keep the history so a small but real saving is shown for what it is, and an inflated was-price on a cheap item is flagged rather than trusted.

  • Savings are small in rand terms, so buy on need rather than chasing a percentage.
  • Wardrobe basics return to sale often, so wait for a recorded low on the piece you want.
  • Use our usual-price figure, not the badge, to judge a markdown.

Questions people ask

Does Exact have genuine sales, or is the discount off an inflated price?

It varies by item, and the gap can be wide. Across the 19 Exact deals we have tracked long enough to judge, the typical badge is 50% off, but measured against the price the item actually holds, the median real saving is R0 (0%). The rest of that percentage is calculated off a was-price we have not seen the item reach. We show both numbers on every deal so the badge does not do the deciding.

How many Exact deals is SaleDrop tracking right now?

We are tracking 20 Exact deals at 50% or more off, priced from R34.99 to R249.99, up to 63% off. Of those, 19 have enough recorded history for us to judge the saving, and 18 are at the lowest price we have on record.

How do I know if a Exact deal is actually a good price?

Ignore the percentage badge and look at two figures we record: the lowest price we have ever seen the item at, and the price it usually holds. If the current price is at or near that recorded low and clearly below the usual price, the saving is real. Our method is on the how-we-verify page.

How SaleDrop works

  1. We track the price. Day after day, we record what each item actually sells for at the shop.
  2. We check the discount. A was-price only counts if the item really held that price while we watched.
  3. You buy with proof. Green means the saving is real against the price it usually holds. You buy at the shop, not from us.
